Cross country skiing in the Lake Temiskaming area
Skiing around Lake Temiskaming

The Lake Temiskaming region has long since made its mark in the cross-country skiing history of Northern Ontario. In 1930, three Temiskaming-born young men made headlines in the Toronto Star by skiing from Cobalt to Toronto in 10 days, on ONE pair of 18-feet-long skis.

Today, cross-country ski enthusiasts can explore an abundance of varied trails in the area.

North Bay Nordic Ski Club

The largest network of cross-country trails around Lake Temiskaming is the North Bay Nordic Ski Club, with 50 kilometers of groomed trails, 2.5 of which are lit for evening skiing. The clubhouse provides guests with restrooms and offers plenty of snacks.

Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club

The Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club is another great cross country skiing location. The TNSC is renowned throughout Ontario, as it offers some of the finest cross-country experiences in the province. In 2016, the Club hosted one of the three Ontario Cup championships held in Ontario. 20 kilometers of well-groomed trails are available for both skate skiers and classic skiers.

Englehart Nordic Ski Club

The Englehart Nordic Ski Club covers 12 kilometers of groomed trails that run through the Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park. A cozy chalet is open on the weekend for skiers to keep warm.

Kirkland Lake

In Kirkland Lake, 12 kilometers of trails are found behind the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. The trails are made up of 6 different loops for skate-skiing as well as classical skiing.

Nature's Harmony Ecolodge, Mattawa

The Nature's Harmony Ecolodge in Mattawa offers skiers 15 kilometers of groomed trails in a 400-acre forested area. The trails are also available to non-members, as there is a daily rate.

Duhamel-Ouest cross-country ski trails, Témiscamingue Québec

On the Quebec side of Témiscamingue, near the La Bannik tourist resort, the Municipality of Duhamel-Ouest offers 15 kilometers of trails for skate skiers and 20 for classic skiers. Access is free.
